THE ZOO, AUGUST 31 2000

FRIENDLY

When I arrived at The Zoo, to witness the absolute brilliance of Friendly, I realised how much I had underestimated Friendly's popularity.

The Zoo was packed. Most of the “friendly” fans were sitting patiently in front of the stage. Then the background music stopped and Friendly appeared. The crowd quickly stood and pushed their way to the front, or just found themselves a nice space to dance in. The music started and it was at that moment that The Zoo came alive.

Without wasting anytime they got straight into the set. One part of the room was dancing, another group of people were frantically taking photos, while the rest of the room was going totally psycho - screaming the words out to the songs, yelling out comments to the band and girls grabbing all parts of the band members, whenever they came to the front of the stage. Between songs Friendly made a point of saying that he’s not DJ Friendly as advertised, nor is he a band. He’s just a guy that travels with a band.

FRIENDLY

FRIENDLY

Friendly played all their big hits, with “I love you but…” (you know the rest) being the loudest lyrics yelled all night. At the end of the night the pumped up crowd was not fully satisfied and wanted more. So, like you do, they stood and chanted for more. Giving into the fans, Friendly came out for one last song, their own version of Regurgitatior’s “I Like Repetitive Music”.

All in all, the night was a complete success, with the fans having an absolutely fabulous night.
