Message from His Holiness The Dalai Lama
His Holiness The Dalai Lama said, "The Iraq issue is becoming very critical ... Now
think of this. If there is any bloodshed, people in positions of power,
those who are responsible, will find safe places and escape the
consequent
hardship. They will find safety for themselves, one way or the other.
But
what about the poor people, the defenceless, the children, the old and
infirm? They are the ones who will have to bear the brunt of
devastation."
"We always hear about better environment, world peace, non-violence and
so
forth, but such goals are not achieved through the application of
regulations or United Nations resolutions; it takes individual
transformation. Once we have developed a peaceful society in which
problems
are negotiated through dialogue, we can seriously think about
demilitarisation, first on the national level; then on the regional
level;
and finally on the global level. However it will be very difficult to
achieve these things unless individuals themselves undergo a change
within
their own attitude."
